TORONTO, March 26, 2013 /CNW/ - Cindy Dundon Hazell, professor emeritus and former vice president academic at Seneca College; and Richard Dicerni, former deputy minister of Industry Canada, have joined the board of directors of the Higher Education Quality Council of Ontario (HEQCO). Both were appointed for one-year terms effective January 23, 2013.
Serving as vice president academic at Seneca from 2001 to 2012, Hazell held a number of other senior positions at Seneca after joining the faculty in 1980, including dean of continuing education and dean of business. She is now an external representative for the public on the board of directors for the Ontario Council for Articulation and Transfer. She holds an honours bachelor of commerce and a master's degree in education (higher education) and is pursuing her doctorate in higher education at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto, with a focus on system design.
Richard Dicerni retired as deputy minister of Industry Canada in 2012 and is a director of Holcim (Canada) Inc. and Desjardins Financial Security. He is also an adjunct professor of research at the Ivey School of Business at Western University.
After a 23-year career in the federal government, he joined the Ontario government in 1992 as deputy minister of environment and energy. In 1995 he became deputy minister of education and training. Dicerni was appointed senior vice president at Ontario Power Generation in 1998, heading the company from 2003 to 2005. He has served on the boards of Trent University, Credit Valley Hospital, Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd. and the Public Policy Forum. He received his BA in 1969 from Université de Montreal and his master's degree in public administration from Harvard in 1981.
