CIRA announces streamlined .CA registry system for improved customer
experience
OTTAWA, Oct. 13 /CNW/ - It is now easier for Canadians to register and maintain their .CA domain names. The Canadian Internet Registration Authority (CIRA) today launched its redesigned and streamlined domain name registration system, the system that enables Registrars - the companies that register domain names - to communicate with the .CA registry database. This effectively updates and simplifies every aspect of the registry from its technological processes to its policies and business practices.
In the largest single project undertaken in its history, CIRA replaced its previous registry system with the industry standard EPP-based system. The rewrite is the result of nearly two years work and has involved almost all of CIRA's employees.
"CIRA is currently in its tenth year of managing the .CA domain space. We are also approaching 1.5 million .CA domain names registered. We recognized that it was time for us to invest in our systems, people, processes, and technical infrastructure," said Byron Holland, CIRA's President and CEO. "With the new system, CIRA is operating a world class registry. Not only have we been able to simplify our policies and processes, but we have been able to do so while maintaining the safety and security - what Canadians have come to count on us for - of the system."
With the new system and policies fully implemented, CIRA is effectively able to remove itself from many day-to-day transactions. Annual renewals are now automatic, so you do not have to fear losing your domain name if you forgot to renew on time. Most transactions will be handled solely by CIRA-certified Registrars, who all have recently completed an accreditation process to ensure they are able to offer the highest quality customer service to .CA domain name holders.
"We've streamlined our most common transactions concerning .CA domain names, greatly enhancing the experience customers will have starting today," said Holland. "We've also beefed up support to our partners - the companies that service .CA customers on a regular basis. Now the entire process of getting and maintaining a .CA domain name will be among the most efficient in the world."
