Circumstances cause cancellation of two live cards July 26 & August 3, 2013 at Hastings Racecourse
VANCOUVER, July 10, 2013 /CNW/ - Hastings Racecourse and Slots has announced that all three B.C. Racing Associations have decided and agreed upon the cancellation of the Friday, July 26th and Saturday, August 3rd cards at Hastings Racecourse due to a shortage of entries and a flu virus affecting some horses.
The three governing bodies include the Horsemen's Benevolent Protective Association (HBPA), Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association (TOBA) and the Canadian Thoroughbred Horse Society (CTHS), B.C. Division in conjunction with Hastings Racecourse Management.
The decision was made to ensure a strong card for the annual BC Cup Day on Monday, August 5th that showcases six stakes races totaling $325,000 in purses restricted to horses bred in British Columbia. The $75,000 Redekop BC Cup Classic highlights the Aug. 5th Holiday Monday card that includes five $50,000 stakes: the Debutante for 2-year-old fillies; the Nursery for 2-year-old colts and geldings; the Dogwood for 3-year-old fillies, the Stellar's Jay for 3-year-old colts and geldings and the Distaff for 3-year-olds and up fillies and mares. Parade to the post on Monday August 5th will be 12:50 p.m.
Hastings Racecourse and Slots apologizes to patrons for any inconvenience caused by these scheduling changes. As always, simulcast wagering will be available to guests on July 26 and August 3rd.
Friday Night Live racing (parade to the post 7 p.m.) returns this Friday (July 12) leading into the regular Saturday and Sunday afternoon with 1:50 p.m. start times.
