City Garners Most-Watched Audience in Network History with the 56TH Annual GRAMMY Awards®

TORONTO, Jan. 27, 2014 /CNW/ - Last night's electrifying performances at Music's Biggest Night® struck a chord with Canadians as the 56TH Annual GRAMMY Awards® on City attracted an average audience of 2.54 million viewers P2+, making it the most-watched program in the network's history. Reaching a total audience of 8.1 million viewers across the country, the exclusive Canadian broadcast won the night nationally (P2+) and in the Toronto, Vancouver, and Calgary markets for the key A25-54 demo.
Audiences peaked at 9:21 p.m. with 3.4 million viewers (P2+) tuning in to P!nk's soaring spectacular acrobatic performance of "Give Me A Reason" with Nate Ruess. Last night's telecast marked a 60 per cent increase over the network's previous record high, the Hell's Kitchen Season 6 finale on October 13, 2009 (1.6 million viewers, P2+).
Leading up to the awards broadcast, more than 537,000 viewers (P2+) watched City's live red carpet special Entertainment City: Live at the GRAMMY®s, making it the #1 red carpet special of the night in Canada as hosts Dina Pugliese (Breakfast Television Toronto), two-time GRAMMY nominee Ed Robertson (Barenaked Ladies), Tracy Moore (Cityline), and Alex Despatie (Breakfast Television Montreal) interviewed music superstars P!nk, Dave Grohl, Willie Nelson, Katy Perry, Metallica, and more.
Returning to City after 19 years, the three-hour telecast lived up to the hype with memorable moments throughout the evening including Beyonce and Jay Z's sexy opening, the mind-blowing collaboration from Kendrick Lamar and Imagine Dragons, the reunion of rock legends Ringo Starr and Sir Paul McCartney, and Macklemore and Ryan Lewis's moving performance of "Same Love," featuring the inclusive nuptials of more than 30 couples.
With the #CityGRAMMYs hashtag trending nationally throughout Canada, French electronic duo Daft Punk were the big winners of the night walking away with five GRAMMY Awards and performing the ultimate genre collaboration of their winning song, "Get Lucky" featuring Pharrell and music icon Stevie Wonder.
