TORONTO, June 19, 2012 /CNW/ - CITY TV CityNews at 6 will receive a Fire Safety Award from the Fire Marshal's Public Fire Safety Council at a ceremony on June 26, 2012 in Toronto. The annual Fire Safety Awards recognize outstanding contributions to fire protection and prevention in Ontario.
CITY TV is renowned for its community-oriented and culturally-diverse television programming that informs and entertains millions of residents throughout the Greater Toronto Area. When approached by Vaughan Fire and Rescue Service with the idea of creating a series of fire safety segments, CITY TV CityNews at 6 was more than willing to oblige.
CITY TV CityNews at 6 worked tirelessly with Vaughan Fire and Rescue to create three segments called Firewise. Each segment was over three minutes long and focused on important home fire safety issues such as cooking, careless smoking, home escape planning and smoke alarms. The fire department even conducted a test burn to demonstrate the effectiveness of home sprinkler systems. The series aired as part of the evening news on three consecutive nights in October, 2010.
"CITY TV CityNews at 6 contributed all of the resources and staff required to film this ambitious and educational project," said Ted Wieclawek, Ontario Fire Marshal. "With its commitment to local issues and extensive viewing audience, CITY TV proved to be the perfect media partner for Vaughan Fire and Rescue Service."
