City's Legal Action on Uber Is Essential: iTaxiworkers
TORONTO, Nov. 19, 2014 /CNW/ - The iTaxiworkers Association, representing Toronto's frontline taxi drivers, says the city's legal action against Uber is needed to ensure consumer protection and driver safety.
The iTaxiworkers applauds the City of Toronto's actions to protect consumers against unlicensed, unregulated drivers and companies operating as taxi services. Licensed taxi drivers in Toronto who operate within city regulations are trained professionals with a focus on customer safety and quality service.
"While we welcome new technology that connects taxi drivers with customers, it is essential that it be in compliance with City of Toronto regulations and bylaws," said Sajid Mughal, iTaxiworkers President.
"We are disappointed by John Tory's remarks and encourage the Mayor-elect to meet with frontline taxi drivers to hear our concerns about unlicensed services such as Uber."
