INTERNATIONAL GUEST PANEL FEATURED IN REVAMPED ROTMAN/CJF PROGRAM
Jonathan Goodman, senior partner of the Monitor Group business consulting firm and Co-Chair of Monitor Canada; Richard Siklos, Los Angeles-based columnist, reporter and former editor-at-large at Fortune magazine; and Chrystia Freeland, global editor-at-large at Thomson Reuters (above, left to right), are to appear on a guest panel at the upcoming Media Management Executive Education Program (MMEEP).
The MMEEP is Canada's only management certificate program for journalists, co-produced by the CJF and the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto. Launched in 2009, the program has been revamped this year to include the guest panel, living case studies based on participant submissions as well as experts-in-residence who will offer insights and expertise to applying the curriculum in the field.
The three-day residential program takes place from October 15 to 17 at the Institute for Learning in Toronto. Registration ends on September 30.

IT'S BACK TO SCHOOL AT J-SOURCE.CA
September's here, which means it's back to routines for staffers and students alike. J-Source - Canada's number 1 Canadian journalism news and commentary site - is making the transition a little easier. We've posted several new resources and collected some trusted faves in a handy one-stop Back To School section. Here's a quick tour:
Ready to talk shop and impress your peers? Yeah, that's what we were afraid of. First, take our J-Source pop quiz to see how well you know your way around the current Canadian journalism landscape. Then, check your answers against our guide to the Top 10 conversations in journalism today.
It's never too early to start thinking about internships, many of which require that you apply well in advance of graduation. Scan our list of Canadian internships and bookmark it to check for updates throughout the year.
Newsflash: The world of journalism is changing, and not all teachers (or students) are keeping pace. Check out How to teach social media in J-school and How to conquer j-students' fear of technology for tips on incorporating new media lessons into curricula.
PROFS: Don't forget to peruse more educational resources in Teaching Journalism, including course syllabi sharing info, online style guides and more.
STUDENTS: Don't forget to hang out for a bit in the Students' Lounge and get involved (great opportunities for self-publishing and getting the attention of potential employers; hint, hint).
PLUS each week we send an e-newsletter linking you to the newest and best stories. New sign-ups before October 1 will be entered into a draw to win a Back To School Survival Pack filled with Microsoft goodies (some items pictured above). If you're not into the weekly e-mail thing, you can also follow us on Twitter or join our Facebook group.

LETTER FROM OUR CHAIR »
In the mass media world we inhabit these are tough times, and tough times demand senior managers who are creative, strategic and innovative -- people who can do more with less. Developing such people has always been a challenge. Until now.
In 2009, the Canadian Journalism Foundation joined with the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto to introduce Canada's first executive education program for senior managers in the media.
The Media Management Executive Education Program (MMEEP), an intensive three-day residential program, is designed specifically for senior managers in all facets of all media. Rotman, as you know, is one of the world's top business schools. The Financial Times ranks its MBA program among the top 15 in North America. But it is also a leader in the design and delivery of executive programs tailored to the unique needs of industries such as ours.
To encourage opportunities for in-depth discussion and small group interaction, the program can accommodate up to 25 participants. We still have room for a few more, so if you think you or your organization would benefit from this unique opportunity, please contact the CJF offices at 416-955-0394 for more details. I look forward to seeing you there.
Sincerely yours,
John Macfarlane
Chair, Board of Directors
