MONTREAL, Jan. 16, 2018 /CNW Telbec/ - We are pleased to announce that Justice Dugré of the Superior Court has approved a settlement of up to $3.5 million dollars for class members who were exposed to excessive noise, resulting from the construction of the Ville-Marie highway, from 1998 to 2000.
All persons who resided within 350 meters to the south and 170 meters to the north of the Ville-Marie highway, between Guy and De Carillon streets, between 1998 and 2000 are concerned by this class action.
Class members can now claim their compensation by filling out the form available at the following address: http://collectiva.ca/case-krantz. All claims must be submitted to the claims administrator before May 28, 2018.
The amounts of the compensations will vary depending on the number of claims, we estimate that between 15% and 30% of members will ultimately claim. In one of the most affected zones, a family of two could receive a compensation of up to $ 5,560 if 15% of members claim, or of up to $ 3,460 if 25% claim.
The institution of this class action prompted the installation of permanent sound barriers along highways and the erection of temporary sound barriers when construction work is done in residential areas. Although Mr. Peter Krantz, the representative, is disappointed that the class action has not resulted in a change of behaviour leading to a reduction of the current seriously disturbing noise levels resulting from construction work on the Turcot interchange, he nonetheless thinks that the settlement amount in this class action is fair, and encourages all class members to file a claim.
We will hold a press conference today at 10 a.m. at Café Joe on 3068 St-Antoine Ouest, Montreal, and we will be glad to answer any questions that you may have on the matter. We hope to see you there.
Thank you for your time and attention.
