Leaving BC for Alberta tomorrow morning, May 28, Clara Hughes continues the journey to a stigma-free Canada in Crowsnest Pass, Claresholm, Calgary, Red Deer, Edmonton, Vegreville and Lloydminster
CRANBROOK, BC, May 27, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - Starting tomorrow and for the next 9 days, Canadian Olympian Clara Hughes brings the Big Ride for Bell Let's Talk to communities across Alberta.
In British Columbia today on Day 75 of the Big Ride, Clara rides from Creston into Cranbrook and will attend the 9th Annual Volunteer Appreciation and Awards Gala at St. Eugene Golf Resort and Casino, 7777 Mission Road in Cranbrook from 6 pm to 9 pm.
"I've had a wonderful time riding in BC over the last 2 weeks and meeting so many great people in communities across this beautiful province. I'd like to thank everyone here in Cranbrook and across BC for their warm welcome and for embracing the idea of a Canada free of stigma around mental illness," said Clara. "I'm eager to meet the people of Alberta and share more mental health stories starting tomorrow!"
Clara's Big Ride in Alberta
Clara will visit the following communities during her 9-day Ride through Alberta:
Crowsnest Pass - May 28 to 29
On May 28, Clara will attend the "Pupus in the Pass" event taking place from 5:30 to 8:15 pm at the Crowsnest Sports Complex, 8702 22 Avenue, Coleman.
Claresholm - May 29 to 30
On May 29, Clara will attend a welcome event at 3:30 pm at Ambudson Park, 4900 3rd Street West, Claresholm.
Calgary - May 30 to 31
Clara will attend a welcome event at Canada's Sports Hall of Fame, 169 Canada Olympic Park Road SW at 4:15 pm on May 30. Special guests Helen Upperton, silver medallist in bobsled at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games, and stand-up comedian and Bell Let's Talk spokesperson Kevin Breel will speak at the event.
On May 31, Clara will attend the "Calgary Welcomes Clara Hughes" event at the Calgary French and International School, 700 77th Street SW. The event starts at 9 am with Clara arriving at 10 am.
Red Deer - May 31 to June 1
On May 31, Clara will attend the "Move Your Mood" event taking place from 4:30 to 6:30 pm at the Parkland Mall, 4747 67th Street.
Edmonton - June 1 to June 2
Clara will cycle to the free public event at Mill Woods Park, 7207 28 Ave NW on June 1. The event begins at 2:30 pm and Clara is expected to arrive at 4:30 pm. Later that evening, Clara will participate in the "Celebrate Success!" event at the Delta Edmonton, 10222 102 St NW from 6:30 to 8:30 pm.
Vegreville - June 2 to 3
On June 2, Clara will attend the "Stamp out Stigma - Let's Talk" event taking place from 5 pm to 7:30 pm at the Vegreville Arena, 4509 48th Street.
Lloydminster - June 3 to 5
On June 3, Clara will attend the "Canadian Tire Welcome to Town" event taking place from 3:15 to 5:15 pm at 4215 70th Avenue.
Each day of Clara's Big Ride in Alberta includes presentations at schools and other community events organized by local Community Champions. More details on daily events and the Big Ride Community Champions can be found at Bell.ca/ClarasBigRide.
