QUEBEC CITY, May 18, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - The inaugural concert by the OSQ's new musical director will kick off Classik, a series of outdoor musical events that will run from August 8-11, 2012 on the Loto-Québec stage (National Assembly Plaza).
FABIEN GABEL AND THE OSQ - Wednesday, August 8 at 8:30 pm
This will be Fabien Gabel's very first concert as the OSQ's musical director in Quebec City. To mark the occasion, he will be offering a highly colourful program of works by Tchaikovsky, John Williams, Bizet and Verdi. In case of inclement weather, the concert will be presented the following day before the screening of The Child Prodigy.
THE CHILD PRODIGY - Thursday, August 9 at 8:30 pm
This will be an outdoor screening of The Child Prodigy (L'enfant prodige), which chronicles the incredible story of pianist André Mathieu. Directed by Luc Dionne under the musical direction of Alain Lefèvre and featuring Patrick Drolet, Macha Grenon and Marc Labrèche, the film recounts the tormented life of "Canada's Mozart".
FLYING STEPS - Friday, August 10 at 8:30 pm
Flying Steps, four-time gold medallists in the World Breakdance Championships, will be offering breathtaking choreography set to excerpts from J. S. Bach's Well-Tempered Clavier performed on harpsichord and piano. MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT WORKSHOPS - everyday beginning at noon
During these workshops, children aged 6 and younger will learn to play instruments such as the guiro and the agogo bell. There will also be a percussion circle for 7-to-12 year olds, in which they will explore the possibilities of rhythmic improvisation using djembes and other types of drums. Led by Jeunesses Musicales du Canada, the non-stop workshops will be presented every day beginning at noon. Activities will include circus arts, handicrafts and demonstrations on how to make a violin. Don't miss out on all the fun: August 8-11, National Assembly Plaza!
