The participating classrooms will demonstrate how effective FrontRow's new student microphone (a kind of 21st century "talking-stick") is for building public speaking skills and confidence.</p> <p>National Show-and-Tell Day will be held across the country on <chron>October 20th</chron> at the following locations: North Saanich, British Columbia; <person>Prince Albert</person>, Saskatchewan; Moncton and Riverview, <location>New Brunswick</location>; Niagara Falls, Hamilton, and <location>Toronto</location>, Ontario. Children will either bring in something of personal value to show, or share an interesting story, while using the microphone. Following these activities, the teacher/principal will provide insight as to why sound technology immensely contributes to an interactive classroom experience. Local media is welcomed to film the event in action and interview selected parties.</p> <p>National Show-and-Tell day focuses on the importance of student participation in learning: studies show that children who are comfortable speaking in front of peers and joining in on class discussions are more likely to succeed in school.</p> <p>"At <person>Joyce Public</person> School, one of our strong focuses is to support literacy learning among children who are learning English as a second language," says <person>Cheryl Paige</person>, Principal, <person>Joyce Public</person> Elementary in <location>Toronto</location>, ON. "Our teachers find that the student microphone engages children and supports their willingness to learn new words and speak aloud. As one of the event hosts in <location>Canada</location>, I am pleased to share with visitors how this tool supports student achievement."</p> <p>The events will occur in conjunction with a Show-and-Tell video contest, offered by FrontRow, that will award thousands of dollars worth of audio equipment to the winning school. To enter, teachers are submitting videos of their class using the 21st century "talking-stick" during their Show-and-Tell presentations, or during any other similar student sharing activity. The winner will be determined by showing the best use of the microphone building student participation, presentation or public-speaking skills. If teachers do not have the new microphone, FrontRow is offering limited time offers to evaluate it free of charge(1).</p> <p>To qualify for the contest, videos must be uploaded by <chron>November 10, 2009</chron>.
