Clayton Ruby Responds to Rob Ford Costs Demands
TORONTO, Feb. 23, 2013 /CNW/ - The legal team that launched the conflict-of-interest suit against Mayor Rob Ford announced on Friday that it will be filing its response to Rob Ford's costs demands on Monday, February 25. Following his successful appeal, Rob Ford has asked the Court to order Mr. Magder to pay over $116,000 in Ford's legal fees.
Clayton Ruby, the lead lawyer representing Mr. Magder, remarked, "Gosh, that's a lot of money for a guy who got off on a technicality."
Ruby added: "Paul Magder is a private citizen who was performing his civic duty and who did not stand to gain any financial benefit from this lawsuit. He was acting on behalf of those many Torontonians who were concerned about Rob Ford's reckless behaviour as mayor. Paul does not deserve a costs award against him. He deserves an award for his act of citizenship."
