MONTREAL, May 7, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - Old Dutch Foods Ltd. announced today that it will be closing its plant and warehouse operations in Lachine, Quebec effective September 27th, 2013.
The plant was built in 1964 by Humpty Dumpty Inc. and has been in continuous operation as a snack food plant since then. Humpty Dumpty was acquired by Old Dutch Foods Ltd. in 2006.
The plant has reached the end of its economic life and Old Dutch Foods has determined that it is not feasible to renovate the plant or open a new generation snack facility in the area. There are currently 216 people listed as actively employed or on temporary layoff at the Lachine plant that will be affected by the closing.
Going forward, the Quebec market will be supplied by other Old Dutch Foods plants in Canada. Sales operations will continue normally and it is anticipated that customers will not experience any supply disruption while this transition takes place.
