CHÂTEAUGUAY, QC, Jan. 15, 2016 /CNW Telbec/ - The ministère des Transports du Québec wishes to inform road users that work on the lighting system will require the closure of one lane on the Honoré-Mercier Bridge in both directions, on Tuesday, January 19th from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
To allow the change of a traffic sign, the Honoré-Mercier Bridge (toward the South Shore) will be completely closed on Wednesday January 20th from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. The entrance to the Honoré-Mercier Bridge from the streets des Oblats and Airlie will also be closed. The Champlain Bridge will be the chosen detoured route. According to the weather conditions, this closure might be postponed to January 27th. Both lanes towards Montreal will remain open to traffic.
This configuration will ensure road users safety in case of bad weather and will facilitate snow removal and de-icing operations that might be required during winter season. Indeed, these operations cannot be properly performed with contraflow traffic, because the width of the lanes is not adequate and not safe for snow removal vehicles. According to those circumstances, the most optimal and secure configuration is the one mentioned above. The Ministère is aware of the impacts caused to traffic and thanks all road users and its partners for their comprehension.
Those interventions might be shortened or cancelled due to work progression, weather conditions or operational constraints.
Between 2015 and 2017, about $4.9 billion will be invested by the ministère des Transports in the road network, and approximately 33 500 workers will be working on some 1 900 construction sites throughout Québec. In the Greater Montréal area alone, over 17 300 workers will be present on about 350 construction sites. To plan your trips and find out about current and projected traffic hindrance, consult the Mobility Montréal section of the Québec511.info website. Respecting road signs is vital for the safety of road users and workers.
