CMA Ontario congratulates WEST of Windsor on National Recognition Award
TORONTO, April 4, 2012 /CNW/ - The Certified Management Accountants of Ontario (CMA Ontario) today presented Women's Enterprise Skills Training of Windsor with the CMA Canada National Recognition Award. The award is presented to a group, company or institution that has made a significant contribution to the overall development of CMA Canada's growth and specifically to the discipline of management accounting.
"The partnership that was developed three years ago between WEST of Windsor and University of Windsor - Odette School of Business has been an outstanding example of how we can work together to achieve the prosperous goals for both a city and province," says Merv Hillier, MBA, FCMA, C.Dir., CMC, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Certified Management Accountants of Ontario. "We're proud to have played a role in a skills development program that will have positive lasting effects in Windsor and in management accounting," says Hillier.
In 2009, Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) and the Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration (MCI) announced a funding program to support a three-way partnership between WEST, the University of Windsor - Odette School of Business, and Certified Management Accountants of Ontario (CMA). Since 2009, the program has received more than 234 applications, provided training to 70 women - and most importantly a participant employment rate of 86%.
"The Odette School of Business is proud to be part of the success of these hardworking professionals who can now practise in Canada as fully qualified accountants with the prestigious CMA designation," says Dr. Allan Conway, Dean of the Odette School of Business at the University of Windsor.
"WEST is proud to assist in bridging the skills and knowledge of internationally-trained accountants and finance professionals in partnership with CMA Ontario and Odette School of Business. We are thrilled of the success of the program participants and we are confident that the success of our clients will lead to growth and development of the local labour market," says Rose Anguiano Hurst, WEST Executive Director.
The program is currently being adopted for expansion to other cities in Ontario and provinces in Canada.
