QUEBEC CITY, May 19, 2015 /CNW/ - CO2 Solutions Inc. (or "the Company") (TSX-V: CST), the leader in the field of enzyme-enabled carbon capture technology, today announced that its 10 tonnes per day (tpd) CO2 capture demonstration project at Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, Quebec, has commenced in line with the Company`s timeline as communicated previously.
The demonstration unit, which was constructed on time and on budget, has undergone successful first commissioning. The solvent has been run through the system and all controls and equipment are responding according to design parameters. As the project was moved forward from its original timeline to run in Valleyfield, training of operating staff was accelerated and concluded on May 15th.
"Having reached this stage ahead of the original schedule is testament to the technology development and project management skills of our people," stated Evan Price, President and CEO of CO2 Solutions. "Following the recently announced breakthrough test results of our technology at the 1 tpd scale, this demonstration project has attracted very serious attention on a global scale from industry players, potential customers and other stakeholders."
The facility has been configured for autonomous operation, meaning the unit has been adapted to produce its own heat and flue gas from a natural gas-fired boiler. CO2 is captured from the flue gas, and subsequently stripped from the solvent using hot water generated by the boiler. The flue gas produced by the boiler is the same type as produced by a Once Through Steam Generator (OTSG) employed in oil sands and heavy oil extraction, ensuring test data will be relevant for application in the industry. The operation at Salaberry-de-Valleyfield is scheduled to run for at least 1,000 hours. All test results will be independently reviewed by third parties.
