QUEBEC CITY, May 2, 2012 /CNW/ - CO2 Solutions Inc. (TSX-V: CST), an innovator in the field of enzyme-enabled carbon capture technologies, announced today that it has received the Notice of Allowance from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for the issuance of US20100203619, "CO2 ABSORPTION SOLUTION". The patent will cover the use of carbonic anhydrase (CA) in any form for carbon capture from a gas stream and with any secondary or tertiary amine solvents. This Notice demonstrates the unique nature of the Company's technology, which uses low-energy amine solvents accelerated by CA to cost-effectively capture CO2 for reuse or sequestration. Near-term commercial applications exist for the technology, such as the processing of various industrial gasses, as well as potential long-term markets, such as flue gas treatment in the power generation and oil industry.
"This new patent further solidifies our leadership position in the field of enzymatic carbon capture at a time of intense industry interest in carbonic anhydrase. It provides the ability to deploy our carbon capture technology with low-energy and more environmentally sustainable amines in industries that are using more energy-intensive and costly amines such as monethanolamine (MEA). With our technology we can provide our customers with significant operating cost savings with a 'drop-in' solution that seamlessly integrates within existing gas-treating plants", stated Glenn Kelly, President & CEO of CO2 Solutions.
