Tracy Redies tapped for UVic board and named among Top 25 Women of Influence of 2013
SURREY, BC, Sept. 18, 2013 /CNW/ - Coast Capital Savings president and CEO Tracy Redies has been appointed to the board of governors of the University of Victoria effective September 7 and also named one of the Top 25 Women of Influence of 2013.
Redies' appointment to the University of Victoria board runs till July 31, 2014. Redies, who is a UVic alumna, said serving on the board is an opportunity to give back to an institution that played an important role in laying the academic foundation for her professional development and career.
"I am a strong believer in education and as a UVic graduate, I have great confidence in the future of the university and its potential to prepare youth and adult learners for the challenges and opportunities ahead," Redies said. "I am delighted to join the excellent team of governors and working with them to advance the best interests of students, faculty and staff, as well as the overall leadership of the university in the academic and business community."
Erich Mohr, chair of the University of Victoria board, said Redies is a welcome addition to the board and will bring valuable insights from her business and organizational leadership experience.
"In a sense, having Tracy join the board is a homecoming, given her academic roots on this campus and it's great to see her return to her alma mater to contribute the fruits of this knowledge to UVic's continuing growth and success," Mohr said. "The board and the university as a whole will benefit from her insights and her strong commitment to building a richer future for youth through education."
Redies holds a BA with a double major in Economics and Pacific Asian Studies from UVic. She received a Distinguished Alumni award from the university's Faculty of Social Sciences and was recognized during UVic's 50th anniversary celebrations as one of 50 Alumni Who Made a Difference.
The inclusion of Redies among the Top 25 Women of Influence of 2013 adds to past awards for her leadership in the business community. The Top 25 ranking by Women of Influence Inc., North America's leading organization dedicated to the professional advancement of women, is designed to celebrate and showcase the achievements of the most influential Canadian women in business, health, non-government organizations, professional services, and the public sector over the course of the last year.
Carolyn Lawrence, president and CEO of Women of Influence, said Redies and the other women included in this year's ranking, have not only made a significant difference in their chosen fields but have been exceptionally influential in their reach and influence over the last 12 months.
