Collection Lawyer Deanna Natale facing disciplinary hearing

KITCHENER, ON, Oct. 31 /CNW/ - Markham lawyer Deanna Natale, daughter of former federal Liberal cabinet minister Judy Sgro, is scheduled to appear before a disciplinary hearing in connection with her law firm's high-volume debt collection practice.
On Friday, October 29th The Law Society of Upper Canada's website, www.lsuc.on.ca, first disclosed that Ms. Natale is scheduled to appear before the Law Society of Upper Canada on November 16th and17th for a determination as to whether or not she has engaged in professional misconduct.
Ms. Natale is well known in the collection industry in Canada for sending out large numbers of collection letters to the residents of numerous provinces.
Amanda Worley, the lawyer representing The Law Society, signed the Notice of Application, containing the particulars of the allegations against Ms. Natale on June 15, 2009. Some 16 months later, a 2-day disciplinary hearing has been scheduled at The Law Society's offices in downtown Toronto.
Mark Silverthorn, author of The Wolf At The Door: What To Do When Collection Agencies Come Calling, (2010) published by McClelland & Stewart, has learned that William Trudell, the lawyer representing Ms. Natale, is reportedly going to attend at The Law Society at 9:00 a.m. on the morning of Monday, November 1, 2010, to request an adjournment of Ms. Natale's disciplinary hearing.
Consumer advocate Mark Silverthorn has posted 50 pages of background material in connection with Ms. Natale's collection activities on his law firm's website, www.helpwithcollectioncalls.ca, including copies of collection letters Ms. Natale has recently sent to Canadians on behalf of major creditors including TD Canada Trust, Rogers Communications, and Capital One.
