Minister Leitch congratulates parties on reaching new agreement
OTTAWA, Nov. 28, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - Today, the Honourable Dr. K. Kellie Leitch, Minister of Labour and Minister of Status of Women, congratulated St. John's Shipping Association Limited and Longshoremen's Protective Union, Local 1953 on reaching a collective agreement.
The agreement was reached with assistance from the Labour Program's Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service, which provides dispute prevention and dispute resolution assistance to trade unions and employers under the Canada Labour Code.

- The collective agreement covering approximately 90 employees expired on December 31, 2012.
- Over the last five years, more than 94 percent of collective agreements within the federal jurisdiction were settled without a work stoppage when the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service was involved.
