Two-year agreement balances the needs of part-time employees, colleges, students, and the community they serve
TORONTO, Jan. 30, 2019 /CNW/ - After nine months of collective bargaining, the College Employer Council (CEC) and Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) reached a collective bargaining agreement for part-time support staff at Ontario's 24 colleges.
"This first collective agreement for part-time support staff in the 24 Ontario colleges is an important step in employee relations for our post-secondary education sector. We have an agreement that meets the needs of Ontario's colleges, employees, students and the communities they serve," said Pascal Bessette, Chair, College Bargaining Team.
Over half the CEC's part-time workers are college students, meaning this agreement ensures students can continue access to part-time opportunities during their college years. These job opportunities provide income and valuable experience to students, helping jump-start their careers while supporting their colleges.
