Colleges support federal research announcement

TORONTO, Oct. 14 /CNW/ - Ontario's colleges congratulate the federal government on its announcement today of an independent panel to strengthen research and development in Canada.

"This is a positive step to support innovation and job growth in the country," said Linda Franklin, president and CEO of Colleges Ontario. "More innovation from small and medium enterprises is critical to making this country competitive on the global stage."

It was announced today by Science and Technology Minister Gary Goodyear that an independent panel of experts is being established by Ottawa to solicit the advice of Canadians and business leaders on how the government can cultivate its support of business research and development.

"Ontario's colleges are at the forefront of applied research activities," Franklin said. "The colleges look forward to playing a significant role in a strengthened innovation environment."
