HALIFAX, NS, Oct. 23, 2014 /CNW/ - John Oakey, CPA, CA, a tax partner with Collins Barrow Halifax, was in Toronto recently to present a session at CPA Canada's National Conference on Income Taxes for SMPs (small and medium-sized practitioners).
He discussed the rights pertaining specifically to small businesses outlined in the Canada Revenue Agency's Taxpayer Bill of Rights — rights that include helping minimize their tax compliance costs — and what an actual audit, conducted in accordance with the CRA Audit Manual, entails.
"Successfully representing SMPs before the CRA requires a thorough understanding of how both the bill and manual are related," said Mr. Oakey.
