QUEBEC DATA CENTRE ANNOUNCES EXPANSION PLANS
MONTREAL, Dec. 5, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - COLO-D, operator of Quebec's largest carrier-neutral colocation data centre, is announcing an expansion that will double its capacity from 6 to 12 megawatts. This increase in capacity, which will be completed in Q1 of 2015, confirms the company's growing success in the North American colocation data centre solutions market. COLO-D has already signed contracts that account for 4 megawatts of capacity with multinational and local Quebec clients for supplying the technical infrastructure required for the deployment of enterprise cloud computing solutions in the province of Quebec.
The company's initial $35 million 5-year 6-megawatt project was launched in November 2013; this expansion, four years ahead of schedule, counts as a major success for COLO-D and confirms its leadership in Quebec's data centre industry.
Carrier-neutral data centres are strategically important to companies that prefer high reliability offsite, stable, and secure data storage. Businesses of all kinds are becoming increasingly dependent on having fast and reliable access to several types of data. Colocation data centres allow these businesses to access world-class services without having to invest in the building and management of their own technical infrastructure installation.
The company's first data centre, Certified Tier III, is strategically located in Drummondville. At more than a 100,000 sq.ft., the building has the physical space required to further increase its capacity up to 20 megawatts.
According to COLO-D's CEO, Patrick David, "Last year, our objective was to become Quebec's largest carrier-neutral colocation data centre within five years; we have not only already achieved this ambitious goal, we are now aiming even higher. Doubling our capacity confirms to our clients that as their needs increase, we will meet them. Our investors and partners are very excited about how quickly we are growing; we're very proud to be taking this next step, and have no doubt that it's in the right direction."
This first data centre for COLO-D is financed by a consortium composed of National Bank Financial, Fonds de solidarité FTQ, and W Investments. The centre's international clients rely on its strategic location in Drummondville, its robustness, its integrated information management systems, and its offering of leading edge technologies and solutions in the province of Quebec.
