Free activities for the whole family all day long!
MONTREAL, June 29, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - The Montreal Canada Day Committee, in association with evenko and Altitude C, are proud to present the Canada Day 2012 Celebrations in Montreal. This event is also made possible thanks to the financial help of the Ministry of Canadian Heritage. The free activities of this family-oriented event will start at 11 a.m., on July 1st, at the Quays of the Old Port and will be capped with a fireworks show that will light up the Montreal sky.
The evening will also host Nile Seguin, a Canadian humorist and musician, as well as Alter Ego, a renowned musical group.
Here are all of the Canada Day celebration activities:
11 a.m. - Noon: Official Ceremony and Brass Band
Five recently-landed families will be sworn in as Canadian citizens. The Canadian Forces parade and brass band will then accompany the raise of the flag, which will be followed by the singing of the National Anthem. Media representatives are invited to attend the swearing in of the new Canadian citizens, which will take place on the main stage.
Noon: Canada Day Cake (while quantities last)
New Canadians and everyone in attendance will be invited to enjoy one of the 2000 pieces of traditional Canada Day Cake.
Gun salute - Noon to 4 p.m.
The traditional 21-gun salute will officially mark this community celebration day. Moreover, come and find out all you've always wanted to know about the operation and mechanics of our historic guns. All your questions will be answered on the site. Be sure to bring your camera!
Picnicking area
The area equipped with picnic tables will be appreciated by those who want to enjoy their lunch, healthy snacks, or Canada Day cake in this outdoor ideal location. The Consortium Echo-Logique group will be on site to ensure the cleanliness of the area in an environmentally responsible manner.
Noon to 8 p.m.: Inflatable games village
Multiple colorful inflatable games will be accessible to children in attendance, all of which will be supervised by security services. Among the games: the Obstacle Run, the Sliding/Climbing Unit, the Waki Slide, the Princess, the Bulldog, the Extreme Emergency and the Princess Palace. Several public entertainers and face painting artists will also make this day special for all the kids.
Noon to 8 p.m.: Défi Pierre Lavoie caravan with animation and exercise room
The Défi Pierre Lavoie Véhicube offers you two interactive activities: Pedal on stationary bikes wired to computers, and take part in educational nutrition-oriented activities on tactile tables.
Echo'Scouade - Noon to 8 p.m.
The URM is a trailer equipped with three recuperators that will literally swallow all the residues that can be recuperated on site. The public will be more than happy to learn more about reducing, reusing and recycling on this special occasion.
Alzado - Noon to 8 p.m.
Animation on the Promenade. Wild and crazy characters will make the participants laugh with funny and comical performances.
Dance and music - 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. , Alternately, by AnimaFun
On a dance floor that can hold 500 persons, come and learn about Zorbas, Cab Driver, Electric Slide, Tortuga, Quesi Queno, Techno Latino, and Salsa Electro.
Canada Olympics - 1 p.m. to 8 p.m., by AnimaFun
The Olympic Games are just around the corner… this family circuit concept is a fun-filled reference to the real athletes who will represent Canada in the coming Olympic Games in London. The participants will be challenged to go through the obstacle race as fast as possible. Who's going to win the gold, silver and bronze?
Canada Quiz - 1 p.m. to 8 p.m., by AnimaFun
Come and share an educational activity where laugh and fun have the place of honour. This interactive concept is a genuine quiz about Canada. Come with your friends and family and put your knowledge of your country to the test!
Evening Musical Show - 9 p.m. to 10:15 p.m., with Nile Seguin and Alter Ego, by evenko
Expect a mind-blowing storytelling event with Canadian humorist Nile Seguin. In addition to being acclaimed by everyone, Nile recently took part in the three major humour festivals in Canada: The Just for Laughs festival, the Winnipeg Comedy Festival and the Halifax Comedy Festival. Nile has created written texts for renowned TV shows as This hour has 22 minutes and The Hour. He is also author of The Irrelevant Show radio performance, which has won the bronze medal at the International Radio Broadcasting Awards in New York. Nile featured in the Boston Comedy Festival, and was nominated at the Canadian Comedy Awards on three occasions. Recently, he also recorded his first TV special show.
Alter Ego is a group of well-experienced musicians. The group is composed of three male singers and two female singers, all endowed with truly impressive voices. Specializing in the covers of 1970 to 2000 greatest hits, they have performed all around the world, from Abitibi to China, and from Québec to Atlantic City. Make sure you wear your most comfortable shoes so you can dance all night!
Fireworks - 10:15 p.m.
