Free activities for the whole family all day long!
MONTREAL, June 25, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - The Montreal Canada Day Committee is proud to present the Canada Day 2013 Celebrations in Montreal. This event is also made possible thanks to the financial help of the Ministry of Canadian Heritage. The free activities of this family-oriented event will start at 11 a.m., on July 1st, at the Quays of the Old Port and will be capped with a fireworks show that will light up the Montreal sky.
The evening will also host Maïa Leïa, Dominique Hudson and the Disco Show Discothèque.
Here are the Canada Day celebration activities:
Official Ceremony and Brass Band hosted by Anouk Meunier- 11 a.m. to Noon
Twenty-five people will be sworn in as Canadian citizens. The Canadian Forces parade and brass band will highlight the raising of the flag, which will be followed by the singing of the National Anthem. *** Media representatives are invited to attend the swearing in of the new Canadian citizens, which will take place on the main stage.
Canada Day Cake - Noon (until quantities last)
New Canadians and everyone in attendance will be invited to enjoy one of the 2000 pieces of the traditional Canada Day Cake.
Gun salute - Noon to 4 p.m.
The traditional 21-gun salute will officially mark this community celebration day. Moreover, come and find out all you have always wanted to know about the operation and mechanics of our historic guns. All your questions will be answered on the site. Be sure to bring your camera!
Picnicking area
An area equipped with picnic tables will be appreciated by those who want to enjoy their lunch, healthy snacks, or Canada Day cake in this ideal outdoor location. The Consortium Echo-Logique group will be on site to ensure the cleanliness of the area in an environmentally responsible manner.
Inflatable games village - Noon to 8 p.m.
Multiple colourful inflatable games will be accessible to children in attendance, all of which will be supervised by security services. Among the games: the Obstacle Run, the Sliding/Climbing Unit, the Waki Slide, the Bulldog, the Extreme Emergency and the Princess Palace. Several public entertainers and face painting artists will also make this day special for all the kids.
Photo Studio - Noon to 6 p.m.
Parks Canada will provide a photo booth as an interactive activity where you can take a picture in the park of your choice using various accessories and costumes. For smaller children, a tattoo service will be available with different images of park animals: bears, turtles, fish, etc.
Entertainment on the Promenade - Noon to 8 p.m.
Several street entertainers will perform along the promenade during the day.
Dance and music - 1 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Line dancing on a huge floor that can accommodate 500 people. Come learn and dance Zorbas, Cab Driver, Electric Slide, Tortuga, Ques Queno, Techno Latino, Electro Salsa and Zumba.
Do It and Win: A Game of Skill - 1 p.m. to 8 p.m.
This concept is based on the participants' ability to perform a skill such as: hoops, cup and ball, glass pyramid, etc. The winner will advance to the prize wheel to win a lot. This activity will be hosted as a TV show!
Canada Quiz - 1 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Come and enjoy a real quiz about Canada where you can test your knowledge with friends and family! Take part in this fun filled interactive event while learning and laughing.
Evening Entertainment - 8:30 p.m. to 10:15 p.m. with Maïa Leïa, Dominique Hudson and the Show Discothèque
The evening will begin with Maïa Leïa that will thrill us with her soulful voice and various styles of, reggae and motown. Her debut album included the hit "La nuit dernière" which was played a lot on the radio. Dominique Hudson will then take over and invite us to dance to his intoxicating songs. The songwriter recently unveiled his album inspired by cuban rhythms "Danza". The night will then go on with Discothèque the show inspired by Disco Divas of old times. Discotheque will present the biggest disco hits, sung by modern divas. The singers will be accompanied by dancers that will encourage the crowd to dance.
Fireworks - 10:15 p.m. (8 minutes) - Regardless of the weather
Fireworks will light up the sky over the Montreal Old Port to the music of various Canadian recording artists on the theme "Dancing on the docks". This will be the final event of the day.
