Commercial Real Estate Industry Honours Three At Annual REX Awards
TORONTO, Jan. 18, 2012 /CNW/ - The Greater Toronto Chapter of NAIOP is pleased to announce the recipients of this year's individual awards for outstanding contribution to the industry. The award winners are: Paul Campbell, former CEO and President of SITQ; Peter Cook, Senior Vice President at Cushman & Wakefield Ltd; and Michael Brooks, Chief Executive Officer of the Real Property Association of Canada (REALpac). The awards will be presented at the 11th Annual NAIOP Real Estate Excellence (REX) Awards gala on March 7, 2012 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.
The Greater Toronto Chapter of NAIOP has over 800 members and is the leading, commercial, real estate association in the city. The third largest of 54 international NAIOP chapters, it represents commercial real estate developers, as well as owners and investors of office, industrial, retail and mixed-use properties.
"The REX Awards recognize outstanding achievement in the industry and we are delighted to have three really outstanding people being honoured at this year's event," says Sheila Botting, who is Chair of the REX Awards, as well as a Partner and National Leader, Real Estate, at Deloitte. "Paul Campbell, Peter Cook and Michael Brooks have all made great contributions over many years and are fully deserving of the awards this year."
The Lifetime Achievement Award will go to Paul Campbell, former CEO and President of SITQ International Inc., and currently an Advisor and Director at SITQ. Campbell started in real estate in 1967. In addition to SITQ, he was President and CEO of Revenue Properties Company Limited, and of Nexacor Realty Management Inc. He has also worked with Maron Properties, Campeau Corporation, Oxford Properties, and Caisse de depot. His career has taken him across North America, as well as to Europe, India, China and Russia. He is a Director of Bentall Kennedy LP, Quartier international de Montréal, and the Diabetic Children's Foundation.
Peter Cook, who is receiving the Community Service award, has over 20 years of experience in commercial real estate and has been involved in more than six million square feet of leasing transactions. He is being honoured for his work with such organizations as Worldvision International and the Association for Community Living. Cook has both Honours Business and Masters Business Administration degrees from the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario.
The Directors Award will be presented to Michael Brooks of REALpac. Brooks is an Adjunct Professor at the Ted Rogers School of Management at Ryerson University, and a member of the Canadian Bar Association, American Bar Association, Law Society of Upper Canada, International Council of Shopping Centres, and the Urban Land Institute. He is also a Fellow of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors, has practiced real estate law in Canada for over 25 years, and is a Board Member and Treasurer of the Canada Green Building Council. He is a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) AP (accredited professional).

The 11th Annual NAIOP Real Estate Excellence (REX) Awards is the premier event for the office, industrial and mixed-use, real estate industry in the GTA. The gala on March 7, 2012 will recognize 'Best of the Year' teams in six award categories, along with the individual awards just announced.
