GATINEAU, QC, Oct. 31, 2018 /CNW/ - The Commissioner of Canada Elections, Mr. Yves Côté, has announced that charges have been laid under the Canada Elections Act in relation to two investigations, as requested by the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Ms. Mai Huong Le Ngoc is charged with requesting a second ballot after having already voted by special ballot. She is also charged with knowingly: making a false statement to a deputy returning officer; and, applying for another ballot. Finally, Ms. Le Ngoc was charged with having a ballot in her possession that she knew she was not authorized to have.
The charges against Mr. Renato Molina relate to requesting a second ballot after having previously voted, knowingly making a false statement in an application for a special ballot, and knowingly applying for a special ballot to which he was not entitled.
The events leading to these charges took place during the election period for the 42nd general election, which was held in October 2015.
The charges were filed in the Provincial Court of British Columbia. Details of the charges can be found on the Commissioner's website at www.cef-cce.gc.ca.
