Commissioner's annual report on public-sector privacy issues expected to be
tabled in Parliament
OTTAWA, Oct 4 /CNW/ - The Privacy Commissioner of Canada's 2009-2010 Annual Report on the Privacy Act is expected to be tabled in Parliament on Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2010 at approximately 10 a.m. ET.
The annual report includes summaries of two audits of specific government policies and practices where privacy concerns came to light. One evaluated the use of wireless networks and mobile communications devices by public servants, and the other examined how federal departments and agencies dispose of unneeded paper documents and surplus computers.
The annual report also explores the privacy risks that Canadians face as a result of expanding national security measures, and spotlights incidents in which the privacy of individuals was breached by government actions.
Following the tabling, the annual report and the two audits will be available to the media through the Parliamentary Press Gallery and on the Privacy Commissioner's website at www.priv.gc.ca.
