Commitment to Nuclear Power in Ontario and Abroad Welcomed by Candu Energy Inc.
MISSISSAUGA, ON, Dec. 2, 2013 /CNW/ - Candu Energy welcomes the commitment made in Ontario's Long-Term Energy Plan (LTEP) to nuclear power as a major source of Ontario's electricity, and the recognition of the value of nuclear exports to the province's economy.
"Refurbishing the 10 CANDU units at both Bruce Power and Darlington will enable Ontarians to have clean, reliable, carbon-free, base-load power for another 25 to 30 years," says Ala Alizadeh, Candu Energy Senior Vice President of Marketing & Business Development.
CANDU reactors have an excellent performance record in Canada and abroad. "We appreciate the support of the Government of Ontario in the export of this Canadian technology," said Alizadeh. "We are currently working on promising opportunities for new build CANDU reactor sales in Romania, as well as in China and the UK, where CANDU technology's unique ability to use alternate fuels is featured."
Candu Energy remains confident that new nuclear power remains a viable, clean energy option and that Ontario will invest in new CANDU reactors when the energy demand increases. "Investing in nuclear power means investing in high-tech, well-paying jobs," said Alizadeh. "It means economic opportunities for Ontario businesses as well as a commitment to greenhouse gas reduction and cleaner air for the province."
