'Community Matters,' Union Gas shows Burlington & Greater Hamilton through outstanding United Way campaign
$19,543 raised from employee donations and company matching dollars
BURLINGTON, ON, Nov. 20, 2013 /CNW/ - Union Gas is showing Burlington and Greater Hamilton how much it matters through a $19,543 donation to United Way of Burlington & Greater Hamilton.
"Year after year, Union Gas employees and retirees bring our company value of community building to life through their generous support of United Way," said Mark Egbedeyi-Emmanuel, Union Gas district manager for Hamilton/Halton. "As long-standing members of the Burlington and Greater Hamilton community, I'm very proud that our support of United Way and the good work it does here continues to stay strong, year after year."
All individual employee and retiree donations made during the campaign, which is led by a dedicated volunteer group, are matched dollar for dollar by Union Gas' parent company, Spectra Energy - doubling the community benefit.
"We are most grateful to Union Gas, their employees and retirees for their support of the 2013 United Way Campaign," said Len Lifchus, chief executive officer of United Way of Burlington & Greater Hamilton. "Your generosity will impact the lives of over 220,000 people in our community as we build Stronger Communities, ensure that children can be All That Kids Can Be and help to turn Poverty into Possibility."
For over 100 years, Union Gas has been privileged to work in more than 400 Ontario communities. In addition to natural gas delivery services for homes and businesses, Union Gas has contributed to the province through significant economic investments, hundreds of jobs, millions in municipal taxes, energy efficiency programs, thousands of volunteer hours for community organizations, major charitable giving and sponsorships. Last year alone, Union Gas contributed about $3 million to charitable organizations across Ontario, including a year-round Winter Warmth program that provides emergency relief for low-income families who have a difficult time paying their natural gas bills during the year.
