TORONTO, Aug. 28, 2013 /CNW/ - SiriusXM Canada (TSX: XSR), the country's leading audio entertainment company, today announced the top seven finalists and one Wild Card choice in its fourth annual search for SiriusXM's Next Top Comic. As chosen by Canadians, the seven finalists and one Wild Card finalist will be brought to Toronto to open for Colin Quinn and participate in a comedy showdown at Just For Laughs' JFL42. The best act of the night will win a grand prize of $15,000 and the title of SiriusXM's Next Top Comic.
"The audition tour was a blast and we had a chance to meet so many talented Canadians," said Ben Miner, Canadian comic and host of SiriusXM's Canada Laughs channel. "It was tough, but the country has chosen the best up-and-coming comics Canada has to offer. We're very proud to be able to support Canadian comics with our involvement in the JFL42 Festival and through our Canadian comedy channel, Canada Laughs."
After receiving hundreds of video submissions from comics across the country, 84 participants were selected by SiriusXM to audition live in comedy clubs in Calgary, Halifax, Kitchener, Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver and Winnipeg. Twenty-one semi-finalists were selected, and Canadians were invited to vote online to choose a frontrunner from each city.
