Computer donations and Recycling in British Columbia
VANCOUVER, April 12, 2013 /CNW/ - The ERA (Electronic Recycling Association) has begun what will be another successful year of filling donation requests for charities and community groups in Calgary, Edmonton, and Vancouver. In the month of January ERA has filled two donation requests so far to Calgary Communities Against Sexual Abuse, with a donation of seven laptops, and The Calgary Women's Emergency Shelter with three laptops. Donations for February and March are currently on the ERA website for Calgary, Edmonton, and Vancouver.
ERA donates to Community Living BC in Vancouver. This donation is going to a client who is unable to identify colours or numbers but who greatly enjoys being able to find pictures of nature etc online!
ERA donates to BC 211. The laptop will be going to a family that BC 211 had adopted for the Holiday Season. This family has children that require a home computer system in order to complete school work.
ERA wants to help all charities in BC with free computers.
Any charity in Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary or across Canada can contact the ERA for free computers. If we have them, we will give them.
Unfortunately due to the economics of scale, we can only afford to give, what we get. The more we get, the more we can give. So please think twice before taking your computer to the bottle depot. If you were still using it yesterday, there is a chance someone can use it tomorrow.
As part of Fraud Prevention Month ERA, in partnership with Police Service, hosted E-data Destruction Day at malls in Alberta. This day was used to educate the public on the importance of ensuring that any personal data on their unwanted IT equipment is properly destroyed and not simply discarded.
Rather than laptops, computers, servers, networking equipment and other electronics that are disposed on a daily basis in Alberta and across Canada getting shredded or melted, the ERA can destroy the private confidential data, then refurbish the systems and give them a second home, in many needy and deserving charities.
The ERA's dedication to reducing e-waste across Canada through the reuse and recycling of unwanted IT equipment has allowed other non-profit organizations and community groups to function to the best of their ability by providing for their IT needs. You can find out more online at www.era.ca
