ALS - Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, is a progressive neuromuscular disease in which nerve cells die and leave voluntary muscles paralyzed. Between 2,500 and 3000 currently live with this fatal disease, and every day two or three Canadians die of it. To Canada, with Love will help to support ALS clients in the region, provide equipment to families and to fund research for a cure.
"I am so pleased that the Liona Boyd Concert is being connected with ALS", says Ottawa native, Asalyn Meakin, who was diagnosed with ALS in November 2012. "I just cannot begin to tell you just how much support I have received and how wonderful the ALS Clinic has been to me. I have been given such outstanding care."
Internationally renowned Liona Boyd, O.C., is a five-time winner of the Guitar Player Magazine Poll for the best Classical Guitarist. She has been inducted into that magazine's "Gallery of Greats". Michael Savona received his Bachelor's degree from the Glenn Gould Professional School, and his Master's from the University of Ottawa in guitar performance. He has participated in many international guitar festivals, and currently records and tours with Liona Boyd.
On May 11th, Ms. Boyd and Michael Savona will entertain with a powerful mix of nostalgia, romanticism and storytelling.
