MONTREAL, Sept. 13, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - Two CSN employee unions at Concordia University voted during general assemblies this week to adopt agreements-in-principle reached with the university administration.
Wednesday, members of the Concordia University Union of Support Staff - Technical Sector (CUUSS-TS) voted 99% to adopt their new collective agreement. Yesterday, the Concordia University Library Employees' Union (CULEU) voted 97% to adopt an agreement reached earlier this week.
Each union's previous collective agreement expired in May 2009. The new agreements, which expire May 31, 2015, provide for wage increases of 10% over six years. They also introduce dental and vision insurance coverage for members.
Importantly, members of both the technicians' and library employees' unions successfully resisted Concordia University's attempts to weaken job security and other working conditions.
"We salute our members and other CSN unions at Concordia for their solidarity and determination to hold out against an employer that has increasingly lacked respect for the important work we do," said CUUSS-TS President Alex Macpherson.
Two other CSN unions, the Concordia University Support Staff Union and the Concordia University Professional Employees Union, remain in negotiations to renew collective agreements that expired more than four years ago.
"We mobilized to mutually support our negotiations on the basis of inter-union solidarity," observed CULEU President Irene Fernandez. "We support colleagues in our sister unions and we will continue to be there to help them fight for a fair collective agreement."
