Conseil pour la protection des malades calls a new law on accommodation and long-term care facilities (CHSLD) Français
ROUYN-NORANDA, QC, Sept. 17, 2016 /CNW Telbec/ - Conseil pour la protection des malades (CPM) has just held its 15th conference in Rouyn-Noranda, Québec, on the following topic : "outdated rules and accommodation conditions in long-term care facilities".
Participants have discussed and came to the conclusion that a new law and obligations must be adopted by the government. Participants request the following :
- Freezing of the daily rate for long term care accommodation
- Protection of family assets (house, equipments, car…) when one of the two spouses is admitted to a long term care facility
- At least one member of the administration in each long term care facility (CHSLD) must eat every day the same food that is served to residents
- The average cost of meals in CHSLD must never be less than the amount of $ 5.25 each, indexed annually;
- At least two baths or showers per week for patients who request it
- Residents who are not incontinent have the right to be accompanied to the bathroom without wearing diapers
- The government and health authorities are responsible for respecting the new rules and should report annually to the Quebec National Assembly
- Residents who wish are entitled to at least two baths or showers a week
- Residents have the right not to take too much medication
- Residents have the right to leisure activities appropriate to their condition
- Lunch and evening meals should always include at least two different menus
