Seattle-Based Sound Transit to Host Safety Week Kickoff & Events May 6-10
SEATTLE, April 17, 2019 /CNW/ -- Safety Week announced that Seattle-based Sound Transit will host the kickoff, as well as a series of signature events throughout the week, to celebrate the choices workers make each day to be safe on the job.
There will be events throughout Safety Week at several Sound Transit project sites. Guest speakers, local dignitaries and executives will speak about the status of their projects and the unifying nature of safety. Other Safety Week events will be held at job sites across the U.S. and Canada May 6-10.
"With several high-profile projects under way across the region, we're happy to have Sound Transit as our partner to kick off Safety Week," said Chris Traylor, co-president, Traylor Bros., Inc. and 2019 Safety Week executive committee co-chairman. "The work happening here reflects the commitment of individuals, companies and organizations to ensure safe choices are part of every job, every day."
Sound Transit, which serves a growing ridership of 48 million in the Puget Sound region, is in the midst of an ambitious expansion across 16 cities, developing a 116-mile light rail network, expanded bus rapid transit service and commuter rail.
"Safety is one of Sound Transit's core values," said Sound Transit CEO Peter Rogoff. "Safety Week is an opportunity to reinforce our commitment to ensure the safest work environment and transit trip for every employee, contractor and rider, each and every day."
In addition to the Sound Transit partnership, Safety Week also recently announced Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) will be the first-ever signature sponsor of Construction Safety Week. The association is encouraging its member firms to get involved with the campaign and will partner with Safety Week throughout the year to give firms additional resources to help their workers make safe choices.
"AGC represents a large part of our industry and connecting with their members will only help Safety Week continue to grow," said Scott Cassels, Executive vice president, Kiewit Corporation and 2019 Safety Week executive committee co-chairman. "We're excited to have the support of this influential industry organization."
More details on Safety Week events will be posted at www.constructionsafetyweek.com.
