Continued energy conservation efforts still needed in Toronto
TORONTO, July 11, 2013 /CNW/ - The Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) is asking Toronto customers to continue to reduce electricity use where possible.
While electricity service has been restored to Toronto Hydro, there is a need to reduce consumption while Hydro One works to restore full service to the major transmission facilities affected by Monday's storm.
With the cooler, less humid conditions today, consumers can reduce demands on the electricity system by avoiding air conditioning or setting the temperature at 26 degrees Celsius or higher. Other ways of reducing demand include:
- Turning off all but essential internal and external lights;
- Closing curtains and blinds to keep out the sun and retain cooler air inside; and
- Limiting the use of major power-consuming equipment such as dishwashers, washers and dryers and swimming pool pumps.
The IESO is responsible for managing the reliability Ontario's bulk electricity system and operating the wholesale electricity market. For more information, visit www.ieso.ca.
