ContourGlobal and Coca-Cola Hellenic Bottling Company Inaugurate Innovative
Combined Heat and Power (CHP) Facility in Romania
FACILITY IS FIRST OF OVER FIFTEEN SIMILAR ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY POWER PLANTS IN EUROPE AND AFRICA </pre> <p>NEW YORK, <chron>Oct. 7</chron> /CNW/ -- ContourGlobal and Coca-Cola Hellenic Bottling Company announced today the inauguration of a Combined Heat and Power (CHP) plant located at Coca-Cola Hellenic's bottling facility in Ploiesti, <location>Romania</location>. The innovative plant will supply, in a highly efficient and environmentally friendly process, all the electricity, steam and chilled water required for the production of Coca-Cola Hellenic's beverages. A second similar plant is currently being developed in <location>Romania</location>, at Timisoara, and will begin operations next year.</p> <p/> <p>The Ploiesti CHP plant is a technologically advanced facility that uses clean natural gas to generate electricity and captures the heat emanating from the engine to provide additional energy that is used in the bottling plant. By capturing heat that otherwise would be wasted, ContourGlobal's CHP plant substantially increases the efficiency of the bottling process while at the same time significantly lowering CO2 emissions. Additionally, ContourGlobal's CHP plant captures more than 95% of its CO2 emissions for use in industrial and commercial processes. The facility will greatly reduce energy use in Coca-Cola Hellenic's operations as part of its broad ranging environmental protection measures in the countries where it does business.</p> <p/> <p>Coca-Cola Hellenic has long maintained a commitment to sustainable growth and when the time came to take active steps to carry out this commitment, ContourGlobal was selected to provide a single point solution for its energy needs at production facilities in <location>Europe</location> and <location>Africa</location>. The facility in Ploiesti is the first of over fifteen similar environmentally friendly energy production plants being developed within Coca-Cola Hellenic's bottling plants.</p> <p/> <p><person>Joseph Brandt</person>, President and Chief Executive Officer of ContourGlobal, stated, "Producing consumer products sustainably is one of the key challenges of our time. Through our partnership with Coca-Cola Hellenic, we have recombined existing technologies to create an innovative energy facility at Coca-Cola Hellenic's bottling plant in <location>Romania</location>. Our CHP plant is highly energy efficient and substantially reduces CO2 emissions. We are proud that Coca-Cola Hellenic chose ContourGlobal to develop and operate these innovative facilities throughout <location>Europe</location> and <location>Africa</location>."</p> <p/> <p>ContourGlobal develops and operates electric and combined heat and power businesses around the world for both governments and multinational companies. The Company focuses upon both high-growth, under-served markets and innovative niches within developed markets such as renewable energy and Combined Heat and Power. The Company consists of eleven businesses in operation and construction on four continents with approximately 1,000 MW of generating capacity and an active pipeline of new development business totaling 10,000 MW.</p> <p/> <p>To develop this innovative facility, ContourGlobal worked with a multinational project team including GE Jenbacher (supplier of electricity generating engines, located in <location>Austria</location>), Union Engineering (supplier of CO2 capture equipment, located in <location>Denmark</location>), Carrier (supplier of absorption chillers, located in <location>France</location>), Loial (construction contractor, located in <location>Romania</location>), Niras (engineering firm, located in <location>Denmark</location>), Norton Rose (legal counsel, located in the <location>United Kingdom</location> and <location>Romania</location>), Deloitte and Touche (tax and energy market adviser, located in <location>Romania</location>), and Unisensor (located in <location>Germany</location>, makers of CO2 monitoring equipment) .</p> <pre> Visit ContourGlobal online at www.contourglobal.com
