Contract agreement for the Belfast Maintenance and Storage Facility Expansion Project signed between City of Ottawa and Rideau Transit Group Partnership
MISSISSAUGA, ON, Sept. 27, 2017 /CNW/ - The City of Ottawa has signed a contract as part of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) ratified on March 24th, 2017 for a portion of Stage 2 of the Confederation Line.
EllisDon, as part of the Rideau Transit Group Partnership (RTG), is pleased to announce the signing of a contract with the City of Ottawa for the expansion of a maintenance and storage facility located at Belfast Road. This facility is part of Stage 2 construction for the Confederation Line Light Rail transit system. The $106 million contract includes the Early Work Package Variation Directives, preliminary work and site preparation that began in April 2017.
The RTG is a consortium composed of EllisDon, ACS Infrastructure Canada Inc. and SNC-Lavalin, currently delivering Stage 1 of the Confederation Line in Ottawa. This contract will extend the consortium's scope into Stage 2 of the project. The design and construction of the Belfast Yard Maintenance and Storage Facility (MSF) will be done by the OLRT Constructors Group, comprised of EllisDon, Dragados and SNC-Lavalin.
Under this new agreement, EllisDon and the RTG partners will design, construct and finance the expansion of the Belfast Yard facility, which will house and maintain the additional 72 light rail vehicles (LRVs) that comprise the Stage 2 fleet for Confederation Line. This expansion will include three new maintenance bays, a larger control room, and the replacement of the existing earth berm with a noise mitigating wall. The train yard, including utilities, tracks and systems, will be rearranged in order to accommodate the expansion.
The maintenance and rehabilitation of the vehicles, facilities and the expanded alignment, as well as interface and management services to the City have yet to be finalized under contract.
The Confederation Line is a state of the art LRT system, providing sustainable and affordable travel options for Ottawa's growing population. The Stage 2 phase of the project will add more stations and connections, expanding the transit network. Completion of the Belfast Yard MSF is scheduled for the end of 2018.
