MISSISSAUGA, ON, Oct. 16, 2014 /CNW/ - Sheridan College and Infrastructure Ontario (IO) have awarded a fixed-price contract to Sheridan Creative Partnership to design, build and finance the expansion of the Sheridan College Hazel McCallion Campus (HMC) in Mississauga.
The contract between Sheridan Creative Partnership and Sheridan College is for $67.3 million. Payment will be made by the Province and Sheridan College at substantial completion in summer 2016 to ensure the project is delivered on-time and on-budget.
The project will create employment in the construction sector, with approximately 120 workers expected on site each day at the peak of activity.
The 220,000 square-foot facility will accommodate up to 3,200 additional full-time students, for a total enrolment of approximately 5,500 students. Highlights of the expansion project include space for faculty and administrative offices, 31 new classrooms, 29 new studios, labs and production spaces, and a creative campus complex that consists of:
- a central learning and collaborative meeting space known as the Creativity Commons;
- research and leadership centres such as the Institute for Creativity; and
- a gallery space to showcase student creativity and innovation.
The project will deliver design excellence and sustainability with the new HMC building designed to achieve Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) Silver certification.
The selection of the Sheridan Creative Partnership team is the result of an open, fair and competitive procurement process that began in January 2013. Throughout its submission, Sheridan Creative Partnership demonstrated a clear understanding of the design and construction needs of a postsecondary education facility. The consortium members include Bondfield Construction Company Limited (Developer/Construction), Moriyama & Teshima Architects/Montgomery Sisam Architects (Architects) and Rocklynn Capital Inc. (Financial Advisors).
