Corporate Knights publishes 16th annual ranking - Transat named one of Canada's Best 50 Corporate Citizens for the fourth year in a row Français
MONTREAL, June 6, 2017 /CNW Telbec/ - Transat A.T. Inc. ranks 16th on the list of the Best 50 Corporate Citizens in Canada, established annually by Corporate Knights magazine and research firm. For the fourth consecutive year, Transat is the only tour operator to earn the distinction. The ranking recognizes organizations with outstanding records in governance as well as human, natural and financial resources management.
"We are very proud to be acknowledged once again this year as one of the Canadian leaders in sustainable development," said Jean-Marc Eustache, President and Chief Executive Officer, Transat. "This result did not come about by chance: Transat made a firm corporate responsibility commitment more than 10 years ago, aiming to become a North American leader in sustainable tourism. We share this honour with our employees and our partners, who are among those who helped us achieve it."
Corporate Knights evaluates companies' performance using 12 key indicators, which include energy productivity, carbon productivity, waste productivity, safety performance, employee turnover, the presence of women in executive management, innovation capacity, and pension fund status.
Transat enacted its Policy for Sustainable Tourism in 2007 to implement corporate responsibility initiatives based on four pillars: the environment, communities, operations, and the workplace. Among other actions, the company has a fuel-management program for its aircraft fleet, which is among the most ambitious in the industry and contributes to greenhouse-gas reductions. In addition, Transat implements a wide range of activities to promote employee wellness, development, recognition and social engagement. In 2016, those efforts helped the company become the first tour operator in North America to earn Travelife Partner Status, a key step on the way to earning full certification. Travelife is a respected international standard that recognizes best practices in sustainable development by tourism industry players.
