TORONTO, June 26, 2012 /CNW/ - Participating in the Corporate Reporting Awards provides an excellent opportunity to learn about best practices and demonstrate leadership according to Canada's Chartered Accountants.
For more than sixty years, the awards have recognized the best reporting models in the country. They encourage organizations to strive to be the best in reaching out to stakeholders through information presented in a useful, understandable, relevant and reliable way.
The awards focus on both corporate Canada and Crown corporations and are presented annually by the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants (CICA) on behalf of the country's CA profession.
"Participants receive valuable feedback on their entries and insight on best practices from a panel of expert judges," said Kevin Dancey, FCA, president and CEO, CICA. "The feedback received combined with a review of the winning models can pave the way for organizations to make a strong reporting effort even better."
The deadline for entries is July 9, 2012 and instructions on the simple entry process can be found online (www.cica.ca/cra).
Awards of Excellence for publicly listed companies in various industry sectors will be presented. Separate awards and honourable mentions also will be given to companies for financial reporting, corporate governance disclosure, electronic disclosure and sustainable development reporting. In addition, large and small Crown winners will be chosen in both the federal and provincial categories.
"Investors, taxpayers and other stakeholders are the real winners through the initiative," noted Dancey. "The competing organizations are dedicated to providing integrity and leadership through corporate reports that are relevant, clear and easily understood. The participants are determined to strengthen their relationships with stakeholders."
The 2012 Corporate Reporting Awards are sponsored by Ernst & Young, PwC, Toronto Stock Exchange, RR Donnelley, Listed Magazine and The Streaming Network.
This year's awards ceremony will take place in Toronto in November.
