Corrective press release - Cuts at Global Television Montreal
MONTREAL, April 16, 2015 /CNW Telbec/ - In a press release issued April 15, 2015, SCFP stated "Shaw communications announced 400 layoffs across the country as part of its restructuring program, 55 of those were Global news across the country." These cuts were announced last year.
The most recent cuts announced to employees last week are in the order of 80 positions cut across the country with a net reduction of 30 positions in news.
Last week, employees were informed that the local morning show would be replaced by a national morning show with local inserts. Today, Shaw communications contacted the union with more information concerning the change in programming.
"Regarding the morning show, it will be produced and hosted in Montreal with national and international content being generated by the network and that the vast majority of the content in each hour of the show will be generated by the local team" assured a spokesperson for Shaw communications to SCFP.
