CounterPath and Metaswitch Networks Collaborate to Deliver Seamless Unified
Communications User Experience
METASWITCH FORUM 2010, ORLANDO, FL, Sept. 22 /CNW/ - CounterPath Corporation (TSX-V: CCV; OTCBB: CPAH) and Metaswitch Networks announced today that they have entered into a strategic, long-term agreement. The relationship includes the joint development and marketing of enhanced unified communications capabilities that extend voice, video and messaging services to desktop PCs and mobile devices. The two companies will be demonstrating key elements of the combined solution during Metaswitch Forum 2010, held this week in Orlando, Florida.
More than 250 service providers have already deployed Metaswitch's VoIP application server, MetaSphere, together with CounterPath softphones. The operator of a 4 million subscriber network is among those that have begun integrating Metaswitch and the CounterPath Messaging Convergence Gateway. Now, CounterPath and Metaswitch are building on this success through tight product integration to deliver the most seamless user experience ever, across PC and mobile endpoints.
"Enterprises are increasingly adopting softphones as a cornerstone of a full unified communications strategy, and thanks to the innovations we are bringing to market with CounterPath, our service provider customers are now uniquely positioned to capitalize on this enormous market opportunity," said Kevin DeNuccio, Chief Executive Officer, Metaswitch Networks. "This joint solution will give enterprises, government agencies and other commercial users a fast, cost-effective way to equip their employees in the office and in the field with tools that enhance their productivity and availability."
NetworkWorld recently reported that 70% of companies are increasing their deployment of softphones, showing that business customers are looking for flexible solutions. This fact coupled with the massive disruption from newer, non-traditional service providers, such as Skype and Google, is placing unprecedented competitive pressure on traditional carriers. The combined Metaswitch and CounterPath offerings bring new end-to-end services that immediately create new revenue sources, while also aggressively positioning against competitive entrants.
"We have seen the arbitrage and destruction of local and long distance revenues as non-traditional providers enter the market," said Donovan Jones, President and CEO, CounterPath. "With our joint offerings, we are enabling service providers to compete with unique, and in some cases patented, technologies and products that Metaswitch and CounterPath are making possible for the first time."
