WENDAKE, QC, March 7, 2018 /CNW Telbec/ - The Assembly of First Nations Quebec-Labrador (AFNQL) wishes to congratulate Melanie Morrison who will be honoured tonight in Montreal during the "Courage and Justice in Honour of Melanie Morrison" ceremony, an event organized by Amnesty International. In the context of the 2017 Amnesty International's Writing Marathons, thousands of people wrote to Melanie Morrison to pay tribute to her bravery and to express their support.
"On behalf of the AFNQL, I wish to salute her courage and determination to fight for the rights of the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls. On this special day, we particularly stand in solidarity with her actions and we wish to join all those who wrote to her by thanking her for all she did to advance and bring this important cause to the forefront across the country", stated Ghislain Picard, Chief of the AFNQL.
In 2006, Tiffany Morrison, Melanie's sister, disappeared and her body was recovered years later. Melanie Morrison has since been advocating strongly for justice towards Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls in Canada. In 2017, Melanie Morrison was honoured with the Ambassador of Conscience Award, the most prestigious prize awarded by Amnesty International.
