LONDON, Sept. 6, 2018 /CNW/ - CPLG has been appointed Europe, Middle East & Africa (EMEA) licensing agent for the popular Dr. Seuss franchise.
Dr. Seuss, author of the world's best-selling classic children's books, including The Cat in the Hat, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Green Eggs and Ham and The Lorax, was the top licensed book brand for 2017, according to NPD.
CPLG will expand the Dr. Seuss licensing programme throughout EMEA, on behalf of licensor Dr. Seuss Enterprises, with a focus on apparel, gifting, stationery and toys, targeting adults who grew up reading the books and a new generation of children enjoying the books for the first time.
Dr. Seuss, born Theodor Geisel in 1904, published his first book in 1937. Over the years that followed, he wrote and illustrated 45 books, sold over 650 million copies in 95 countries, and saw his books translated into 30 languages. The popular series combine engaging stories with outrageous illustrations and playful sounds to teach basic reading skills. Dr. Seuss charmed his way into the consciousness of generations of youngsters and parents with his best-selling titles, which have inspired musicals, stage shows, theatrical movies, theme parks and more.
Susan Brandt, President of Dr. Seuss Enterprises, said: "CPLG's expertise in developing classic brands that appeal to a wide demographic makes them the ideal agent to extend Dr. Seuss' reach throughout EMEA. There are a number of exciting projects in development and we look forward to working with the CPLG team to help bring these to life."
Steve Manners, EVP of CPLG, said: "Dr. Seuss is one of the greatest children's authors of all time and we are delighted to be adding the property to our portfolio. His books and characters have introduced millions of children to the joys of reading through his unusual and quirky rhymes, and we have some fantastic plans to extend the brand even further through new product areas and markets."
