TORONTO, Oct. 22, 2015 /CNW/ - The Canadian Public Relations Society (CPRS) and the Health Care Public Relations Association of Canada (HCPRA) are pleased to announce a joint integration effective November 2, 2015.
HCPRA members will become full national members of CPRS and enjoy the many benefits that come with membership. These new members will be encouraged to join one of 14 local member societies to take full advantage of local professional development and networking opportunities. As part of the integration, CPRS is creating a Health Care Academy to support PR practitioners working in the healthcare sector.
"We are pleased to welcome nearly 200 members of HCPRA into CPRS," notes Renee McCloskey, APR CPRS National President. "The addition of these members adds strength and diversity to our membership and bolsters our ability to support and represent the public relations profession in Canada. We are excited to welcome this new family of public relations professionals who share our belief that the ethical and strategic practice of public relations and communications management makes a positive contribution to the profession, our employers and to the communities we serve."
To help ensure a smooth transition, HCPRA President Judy Brown has been appointed to the CPRS National Board for a seven month term. "Our Executive is excited about this new opportunity for HCPRA and our members across Canada," adds Brown. "With the creation of the Health Care Academy within CPRS, we are retaining the very best of HCPRA, while offering our members many new services as part of a larger PR association."
"The addition of these members with a specialty in healthcare communications provides CPRS the unique opportunity to examine our professional development program and how we can offer programs and learning opportunities specific to the healthcare sector," sums up McCloskey. "We believe this integration further strengthens CPRS' position as the association of choice for professional public relations practitioners in Canada."
