TORONTO, Sep. 17, 2018 /CNW/ - Canadian Music Publishers Association is hosting a second German edition of its important Create trade initiative in order to strengthen the profile of Canada's music publishing industry globally. Create Germany (September 17-21) will see Canadian songwriters and music publishers travelling to Berlin and Hamburg.
Create is a dual-purpose music publishing export initiative that connects Canadian talent with songwriters in international territories and links music publishers with key business contacts in global markets.
The Canadian music publishers will be meeting with their German music publishing colleagues who are members of DMV - Deutscher Musikverlegerverband—the Canadian Music Publishers Association's German counterpart—as part of the B2B portion of Create Germany.
Create Germany 2018 participating Canadian songwriters include: Lyle Bell (Six Shooter) from Edmonton, Alberta; Erik Alcock (Universal Music Publishing Group) and Gavin Brown (CCS Rights Management) from Toronto, Ontario; Etienne Dupuis-Cloutier (Bloc Notes Music Publishing) and Maia Davies (CCS Rights Management) from Montreal, Quebec; and Reeny Smith (Cymba Music Publishing) from Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Participating Music Publishers include: Gord Dimitrieff (Aporia Records), Jodie Ferneyhough & Jordan Howard (CCS Rights Management), Vince Degiorgio (Cymba Music), Jon Landry & Shannon Landry (Groundswell), and Kim Temple (Six Shooter Records)
"This is one trip that could lead to many different creative and business collaborations, in six months, in a year, in two years, in five years," says Margaret McGuffin, Executive Director of the Canadian Music Publishers Association. Previous Create missions have been successfully held in Los Angeles and Germany. More than 50 songwriters from more than 40 different music publishers in Canada, Germany and the United States have participated in the Create export initiative to date.
The Canadian Music Publishers Association would like to acknowledge the support of the Government of Canada, through the Canada Music Fund, and the Canadian Embassy in Germany. The Canadian Music Publishers Association also acknowledges the support provided by Hansa Studios and Meisel Music.
Music publishers are innovative entrepreneurs. Export has clearly been a driver of the overall growth in the industry, with the recent "Export Ready, Export Critical" study showing that more than two thirds of those revenues are from foreign sources. This represents a complete reversal of the ratio of domestic to foreign sources from what was found in a 2005 study of the industry, in which less than one third of revenue was from foreign sources.
