Creation of a Biodiversity Corridor in Saint-Laurent - Announcement of the Three Finalists in the Multidisciplinary Landscape Architecture Competition Français
SAINT-LAURENT, QC, Jan. 10, 2018 /CNW Telbec/ - At Borough Council's general meeting on January 9, 2018, Saint-Laurent Mayor Alan DeSousa announced the names of the three finalist teams in the multidisciplinary landscape architecture competition to develop the Cavendish-Laurin-Liesse biodiversity corridor.
Selected by a jury consisting of eight professionals in complementary fields and presided over by architect Pierre Thibault of Atelier Pierre Thibault, these finalists are as follows:
- Groupe Rousseau Lefebvre, to be joined in this second stage of the competition, by J.F. Sabourin et associés inc. and Signature design communication
- Provencher_Roy, Biofilia et White Arkitekter, to be joined by Exp in this second stage
- Table Architecture and LAND Italia s.r.l., to be joined in this second stage by civiliti and Biodiversité Conseil
This two-stage competition was open to landscape architects, biology/ecology specialists, designers and architects from all over Canada. These professionals had to submit their proposals by November 6 of last year.
"Saint-Laurent is proud to organize, in partnership with Ville de Montréal's Bureau du design, the first competition of this kind in Montréal. Included in our Local Sustainable Development Plan for 2017-2020, this initiative is enabling us to confirm the importance that our Administration attaches to biological diversity. Our will to develop a corridor, to connect the natural environments with other green spaces fragmented by urban development, is gradually materializing in this way, as this project progresses," pointed out Saint-Laurent Mayor Alan DeSousa.
Next steps
The finalist firms will have until March 22 of this year to develop their concepts, for which they will each be remunerated $24,000. These three projects will then be presented to the public at an event to be held a few weeks later, on April 5, at the Centre des loisirs de Saint-Laurent.
The winner of this competition, whose name will be subsequently announced, will then be awarded a contract to develop the master plan to design the Cavendish-Laurin-Liesse biodiversity corridor and will be compensated $125,000 to do so.
Role of the Bureau du design in this project
Ville de Montréal's Bureau du design is supporting the Borough of Saint-Laurent in developing and launching this landscape architecture competition. This competition comes within Ville de Montréal's policy on cultural development for 2017-2022.
